Folklorama is accepting applicants for a number of seasonal staff positions in support of its 45th Anniversary Festival in 2014.

Accounting Manager (Full time, Year-round)

 

Distribution Supervisor
Term of employment:  June 16 – August 30;  10 weeks
Rate of pay:  $15.00/hour
40 hours per week; some overtime may be required; must be available
evenings and weekends
Must have valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license.

The Distribution Head reports to Folklorama’s Director of Member and Festival Services and is responsible for all areas related to servicing of Folklorama pavilions, specific marketing programs, special events and inventory controls.  

This position supervises and schedules all distribution staff, coordinating all pick-ups and deliveries between Folklorama office and the pavilions.  They are also responsible for the control and accounting for all festival admissions and merchandise assets; coordinating and maintaining all festival service vehicles; and assisting with all Folkorama events, as required.

 

Assistant Distribution Supervisor

Term of employment:  June 23 – August 31;  9 weeks
Rate of pay:  $13.50/hour
40 hours per week; some overtime may be required; must be available
evenings and weekends
Must have valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license.

The Assistant Distribution Supervisor reports directly to the Distribution Supervisor and performs all duties related to the servicing of Folklorama pavilions, specific marketing programs, special events and inventory controls.  The Assistant Distribution Supervisor will oversee the distribution team in the absence of the Distribution Supervisor.  They will further assist with the scheduling of distribution staff; scheduling and distribution of festival services vehicles; coordinating pick-ups and drop-offs of festival services materials and admissions items; and assist with all Folklorama events, as required.

 

Distribution Coordinator (2 positions available)

Term of employment:  July 3 – August 31;  9 weeks
Rate of pay:  $11.50/hour
40 hours per week; some overtime may be required; must be available
evenings and weekends
Must have valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license.

Distribution Coordinators report directly to the Distribution Supervisor and perform all duties related to servicing of Folklorama pavilions, marketing programs, special events and inventory controls.  Distribution Coordinators communicate daily with pavilions during the festival to ensure they are appropriately serviced and all necessary Folklorama materials are delivered in a timely manner, including pavilion signage and admissions.  They will also distribute marketing materials in advance of the Festival and assist at Folklorama events, as required.

Seasonal Festival Assistant (2 positions available)

Position 1:  Term of employment:  May 20 – August 30;  14 weeks
Position 2:  Term of employment:  June 16 – August 16;  8 weeks
Rate of pay:  $11.50/hour
40 hours per week; some overtime may be required; must be available
evenings and weekends

The Seasonal Festival Assistants report to the Folklorama Executive Assistant and are principally responsible for ensuring that all Folklorama members and clients receive prompt and friendly service on the phone, in person and through written correspondence.  They will also assist the Folklorama Office Administrator with ensuring mail and other office management functions are completed during the busy festival season.  Seasonal Festival Assistants are also frequently called upon to support the rest of the Folklorama staff in the completion of a variety of administrative tasks and may be required to assist at Folklorama events.

Accounting Manager

Folklorama is seeking a dependable and experienced accounting individual with strong initiative and a meticulous detail focus as an Accounting Manager.  This position will serve as a key resource for Folklorama while being responsible for all accounting functions.  The Accounting Manager will apply their team-player approach to contribute to the overall success of Folklorama’s objectives by ensuring that responsibilities and functions are performed in a timely manner.

To be successful in this role, candidates should have excellent English written and verbal communication skills and a high aptitude for customer relations and problem solving skills.  They should also have a demonstrated ability to prioritize in a productive team environment and be able to motivate others with proven effectiveness at managing and coaching staff.  Strong ethics, integrity and accountability are essential for this role.

Required qualifications include the following:
•    Post-secondary education in accounting, business administration, finance or commerce
•    Minimum 5 years of progressive financial management experience
•    Demonstrated audit and financial statement preparation experience
•    Experience with Accpac; expert in MS Office software, particularly MS Excel

Completion of a recognized accounting designation (CA, CMA or CGA) may be considered an asset but is not a requirement, as would knowledge of current not-for-profit accounting principles, standards and regulations as established by Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA)

Evening and weekend work will be required at times, as per the Folklorama event calendar.
