Virsky professional dance ensemble from Ukraine Legends From The Kalevala "Folk Epic of the Finnish People" Monday, July 26th - Sunday, August 15th Free and Open to the Public This exhibit features nineteen water colour paintings of San Francisco artist Patrick Kroboth, based on Finnish folk legends from the epic book of mythologies, "The Kalevala." Mr. Kroboth completed his "Kalevala" series in the mid-1970s, resulting in exhibitions in San Francisco, Finland, Russia, and Germany. His images are colourful and evocative, and represent a wide representation of the various mythologies. They have not been seen in public for 25 years. 2010 is the 175th anniversary of the first publication of "The Kalevala" which was first issued in 1835. The oral legends were collected by a Finnish physician, Elias Lönnrot, who made a series of exhaustive field trips into the wilds of Finland. This book is of immense importance to Finnish people as it was one of the very first books ever published in Finnish.
