Folklorama Honoured by Tourism Winnipeg

Folklorama is a proud recipient of the Tourism Winnipeg Award of Distinction, handed out May 26 at Travel Manitoba's Manitoba Tourism Awards gala event. The award, chosen by Economic Development Winnipeg Inc./Tourism Winnipeg, recognizes any individual, organization or business which has positively impacted the development of Winnipeg's tourism industry and considers factors such as economic impact, uniqueness, city profile, community involvement, commitment to excellence, innovative marketing and overall dedication to the tourism industry. Generally presented to one organization per year, the Award of Distinction honoured three deserving recipients for 2009: Folklorama, Festival du Voyageur and the Winnipeg Folk Festival, who together had a more than $25 million economic impact.

"We are so proud to be recognized by Tourism Winnipeg for our contribution to our wonderful city and province," says Ron Gauthier, Executive Director. "Folklorama's success would not be possible without our partners, sponsors and 20,000 volunteers, who bring our mission of celebrating diversity and promoting cultural understanding to life."

In addition to the Tourism Winnipeg Award of Distinction, Travel Manitoba recognized outstanding contributions to the tourism industry in our province, with The Honourable Flor Marcelino, Minister of Culture, Heritage and Tourism, and Travel Manitoba Board Chair Paul Robson presenting awards in ten categories. Folklorama's Murray Greenfield received the Service Excellence Award for his work as director of tourism and as creator of the Tourism Awareness Network of Manitoba. Folklorama, in conjunction with Canad Inns, was also chosen as one of three finalists in the Marketing Excellence category.
