| Folklorama Celebrates 40 years |
|
Folklorama celebrated 40 years of cultural diversity and is pleased to report a strong response to turning the big 4-0 with 442,000 visits to 41 pavilions at this year's annual festival. Folklorama experienced a record high number of 121 group tours to Folklorama; a figure which includes the 42 VIP World Tour groups and 21 group tours from the USA. The Kick-off at The Forks on August 1st garnered an additional 14,000 person audience and included a very special announcement delivered by Mrs. Shelley Glover, Member of Parliament for Saint Boniface on behalf of the Federal Government announcing a $400,000 grant from Industry Canada's Marquee Tourism Events Program. A portion of the grant went towards a mass media campaign that started this year consisting of TV, radio and print ads to markets in Regina, Saskatoon, Thunder Bay, Kenora, Grand Forks and Fargo-Moorhead. A portion will also be going towards a Folklorama traveling promotional show campaign to target areas in the USA such as Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, and Colorado. The second year for Folklorama Beer was a smash hit with festival goers with another near sell-out on product going into week 2 of the festival. The dark beer with a light flavour was once again welcomed by visitors to the pavilions and sold strong in the Winnipeg Liquor Marts leading up to the festival. The Folklorama Beer also featured a 'Peel and Win' contest with a trip for two with WestJet as the grand prize. The winning can has yet to be claimed. Limited quantities of Folklorama Beer are still available at Winnipeg Liquor Marts. Make sure to mark your calendar and join us for the 41st Folklorama festival August 1 to 14, 2010.
